Pindara Private looking good at 40

2011 sees Pindara Private Hospital enter its 40th year and an exciting new era of operation marked by the completion of the $60 million Stage 1 Redevelopment Project in December, 2010.

The stage 1 project has added 50 new hospital beds, four operating theatres, a dedicated endoscopy unit, a new day-oncology unit, additional ICU beds, new Specialist Suites and a much needed multi-story car park to the Pindara facilities. A 24 hour Emergency and Cardiac Centre as well as on-site pathology, day procedure and radiology centres also continue to operate on the campus.

A further $3milion has been spent to upgrade the Hospital reception areas; install an on-site MRI in conjunction with South Coast Radiology, and create a new neurosurgery unit. The neurosurgery unit (Ward 2C) comprises a four bed close-observation unit and 18 acute surgical beds. An extra two ICU beds are also currently being built to cater for any extra demand generated by the neurosurgical activity.

Changes to the Hospital's reception areas include a new hospital street that connects the existing front reception (North Reception) to the newly constructed rear reception (South Reception).

Pindara Private Hospital was built by Allan and Gwen Ramsey in 1971, and opened with approximately 50 beds and 3 operating theatres. Since then the hospital has changed hands several times. Australian Hospital Care Limited purchased it in 1986; Mayne Health in 2001 and then Affinity Health in 2003.  Ramsay Health Care purchased Pindara in April 2004 and have committed to a Multiphase Master Plan to refurbish and expand the facility.
